Coming from a multi-cultural background, I’ve always treasured language learning & cultural diversity.
I speak conversational Russian & elementary Mandarin Chinese. I also have exposure to French and Spanish - I took three years of high school French in the honors program, and I used Spanish for both my volunteer work in Tijuana, Mexico and my research work in Costa Rica.
Most of my Russian language learning occurred Summer 2015 when I participated in the United States State Department funded program, National Scholarship Language Initiative - For Youth (NSLI-Y). As part of this program, I lived in Moldova for 8 weeks taking intensive language and cultural lessons while living with a Russian host family. After the program, I took an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) test and scored Intermediate-Mid.
I am currently studying Traditional Mandarin Chinese. I started my studies November 2020 when I traveled to Taiwan to visit family and finish courses remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I took private lessons remotely with Taiwan Mandarin Institute. I practice now with friends and family.
